SHANTHI SOCIAL SERVICES is a Registered Public Charitable Trust established in 1996 by Shri P. Subramanian, the Founder and Promoter of Shanthi Gears Limited, to honor his late wife. Born in 1942 to an agricultural family, he became a first-generation industrialist. With a diploma and post-diploma in Mechanical and Production Engineering, he established Shanthi Engineering & Trading Co. in 1969, starting from a small rented shed. His technical expertise led him to design and build a Gear hobbing machine himself to meet manufacturing demands. Over the years, the company expanded its product range, obtained ISO certification, and gained a reputation for quality, prompt delivery, and exceptional after-sales service.
Despite his successful industrial career, Shri P. Subramanian believed in giving back to society. Since the 1980s, he supported the education of underprivileged children, rural development initiatives, and various philanthropic activities. In 1996, he founded Shanthi Social Services in memory of his wife, aiming to provide education, rural development, medical care, food, and assistance to those in need. After retiring in 2012, he dedicated himself entirely to the trust’s development. The proceeds from the sale of Shanthi Gears Ltd were transferred to the trust, enabling it to offer subsidized services in education, healthcare, pharmacy, optical care, petrol, and canteen facilities. The trust currently serves around 25,000 people daily.
For his contributions to the gear industry and philanthropic endeavors, Shri P. Subramanian was proudly honored with the Padma Shri award by the Government of India in January 2021.
